Frequently asked questions

Does Whiteout permanently redact information?

No. Whiteout covers content visually, but the original text can still exist underneath in the file. Do not rely on it to remove sensitive data; use a dedicated redaction tool for that.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and processed by your own browser. Nothing is sent to us or to any third party, and the file is gone when you close the tab.

Can I edit my annotation later?

While the document is open, select an annotation to move, resize or restyle it, and double-click text to edit it.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free to use and there is no sign-up. The site is supported by ads shown on the information pages, never inside your document.
